Hawkes Bay Region
Hawke's Bay is blessed with a wonderful climate, beautiful spaces, fresh air,clean water and good earth.

The Hawke's Bay covers a land area of 1,416,000 hectares from north of Mahia Peninsula to just south of Porangahau, flanked in the east by the coastline and in the west by the Ruahine, Kaweka, Huiarau and Ahimawana Ranges.

Major rivers are Wairoa, Mohaka, Esk, Tutaekuri, Ngaruroro, Tukituki, Waipawa, and major Lakes are Waikareiti, Waikaremoana, Poukawa, Tutira.

There is 350km of coastline.

 Hawke's Bay is a region of unique and exciting heritage resources. Situated on the east coast of New Zealands North Island, Hawke's Bay extends from high altitude ranges on the western boundary to sparkling and beautiful beaches and lagoons on the eastern coastline. To both domestic and international visitors alike, exploring one of our Heritage Trails offers a wonderful opportunity to experience some of Hawke's Bays heritage. Several of the Bay's unique sites and attractions have been incorporated in our 12 trails, providing an exciting insight into Hawkes Bay's history.

Trails can be found across much of Hawke's Bay. Most are self driving or walking trails clearly marked with teal and yellowy signs corresponding to the relevant trail brochure available from Visitor Information Centres. Trails are open 12 months of the year and are FREE. Each New Zealand region is rich in its own unique historical, cultural and natural heritage resources. Heritage Trails link these resources, providing a fascinating journey of discovery for the independent traveller.
