Hutt City (in Lower Hutt), the ninth largest city in New Zealand. It boasts an enviably relaxed environment together with beautiful parks and excellent amenities. the city's attractions range from golf courses and indoor rock climbing. Shopping is big here with Queensgate Shopping Centre forming the centrepiece of the city.

Petone - it was on the Petone foreshore that the early Wellington settlers chose to establish their first township. Today Petone with it's heritage buildings, funky cafes and antique shops, has become a magnet for those who like to brunch and shop.

EastbourneEastbourne and Days Bay - Eastbourne, with it's bush-clad hills and harbour outlook, is one of the Hutt Valley's most sought after places to live.
It is also a popular place for a day trip, particularly over the summer months when visitors can relax on the beaches or take to the sea in sailing dinghies or kayaks.

Hutt RiverHutt River Trail -
an easy route alogside the Hutt River for cyclists and walkers as well as providing access to the river for swimming, fishing and canoeing. In many areas tracks are located on both sides of the river, offeringa range of short loop  walks or cycling options. For brochures or more information contact Wellington Regional Council website.

East Harbour Regional Park on the eastern side of Wellington Harbour, comprises public land between Wainuiomata, Eastbourne and the coast to Baring Head. Tracks give access to bush-clad hills, sheltered valleys, freshwater wetlands of national importance, rocky headlands and sweeping bays.

Belmont Regional Park - rolling hills, bush-clad valleys and farmland between Lower Hutt and Porirua. An ideal place for mountain biking, horse riding, hiking and cross country running. Many vantage points offer panormic views of the South Island and over the greater Wellington region.

Kaitoke Regional Park located north of Upper Hutt, offers a geat day trip destination for those keen to relax in the outdoors and enjoy picnics, bush walks, fishing and river swimming. Rafting, kayaking and tubing are popular white water activities through the Hutt Gorge with commercial trips operating regularly.

Catchpool Valley - Rimutaka Forest Park - described by Hans Willems in his excellent 1998 book North Island Back Country Huts as "one of New Zealand's finest conservation areas".

Turakirae Head Scientific Reserve provides valuable habitat for a variety of plants and wildlife, and preserves a sequence of earthquake-raised beaches. Up to 500 New Zealand fur seals stay over at Turakirae Head each winter.
