ArtsXL are proud to announce that the second BDO Northland Painting/Drawing Award 2010 will be held in November. The Award, first held in 2007, seeks to endorse and promote the immense talent of Northland artists.
Tania McInnes, co-ordinator, said “The Award is about celebrating the rich diversity of artists here in the North. It will provide them with a vehicle to promote their work and in the process gain, often much needed, recognition”.
A significant first prize of $6,000 is on offer, with a People’s Choice Award of $2,000. Both awards are proudly sponsored by BDO Bay of Islands Chartered Accountants and Advisors. Two highly commended works, sponsored by Living Nature and The French Art Shop, will also be chosen.
Judge, John Gow, Co-Director of the John Leech Gallery and the Gow Langsford Gallery, in Auckland will once again select the winning pieces.
The 2007 Award, one of the biggest exhibitions of its kind in Northland at the time, saw over 120 pieces on display. This year a maximum of 80 works will be chosen from the entries to be exhibited.
In conjunction with this Award, the Rona Swallow Art Award will also be presented. This award is open to students in the wider Bay of Islands area, who are in year 12 or 13 and are going on into tertiary education in the arts. Further details on this Award will be available in April.
The BDO Northland Painting/Drawing Award is open to any person in the Northland area, being from Wellsford north. Entries close on 15 October. The exhibition will be held at The Centre at Kerikeri from 14 to 21 November 2010. Works must have been painted in 2009/2010 and not have been previously exhibited.
